Lisa Merman Bender is a photography-based artist who uses digital development and/or manipulation of photographs to create pieces of art. Some photographs are presented as they were captured (see Pure Photography here). Others are the result of digital manipulation—to manifest what is seen in her mind's eye. Sometimes the manipulation involves digital painting (see Digital Darkroom here), other times it is collage (see Capture>Collage here). No matter the process of creation, each fine art piece has been painstakingly created to appeal to the senses, bring you an escape, or provoke thoughts of humankind's place in the world.

Lisa's passion is to take pictures because life is fleeting, and capturing a photograph makes a moment last. She feels that sometimes she is fortunate enough to capture a moment in her life that also speaks to others. And sometimes what she captures inspires her to create a moment she imagines. She hopes that you enjoy these "frozen moments". 

When something is frozen, its very matter stops moving. And stopping motion means rest. We can all use a little rest—time to stop and appreciate things like art. What a precious gift to have the time to stop and look at a picture. Treat yourself.

CURRENT SHOW - Somers Point 20/20

The following pieces were selected for a juried art show in Somers Point, NJ. The photographs are displayed at Shore Medical Center. This was the original location of the show prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, but has even more significance now. Lisa hopes her art helps to brighten the days of beleaguered frontline hospital workers as well as those suffering from the worry and despair of being hospitalized with COVID-19.
